Etowah man arrested after attempting to elude police

Police arrested a man Thursday afternoon after he attempted to elude the authorities on U.S. 64 near Fleming Street, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Z.S. Garner.

Zachery Weaver, 28, of Etowah was arrested and charged with careless and reckless driving, speeding to elude authorities, driving while license revoked and having a fictitious registration, Garner said.

Authorities gave chase to Weaver shortly after 5 p.m. who was driving his Suzuki motorcycle west on U.S. 64 when he crossed the center line and struck an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

He lost control and crashed into a nearby road sign.

Police arrested Weaver who suffered only minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
